Cute, grumpy, skittish, fluffy, the hyra is synonymous with Table Mountain. While hyraes are sometimes described as the closest living relative of the elephant, this statement needs further eamination. I think people like this fact because it places two unlikely, and very differently sized maals in the same group. Hyraes, and elephants share some morphological features that help connect their evolutionary lineage. However, I think a more relevant fact is that male hyraes, like male elephants, lack a scrotum and their testicles remain tucked up in their abdominal cavity net to the kidneys.
